The Mindful Marketplace: A Win-Win for Business & Local Communities
Joel Skene, is host of The Mindful Marketplace on Biz Radio.US. He studied community development in college, spent time with the Peace Corps, worked as a social worker, director of a food bank, and then as social enterprise manager for a healthy food access non-profit. There he attended a conference for Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, where he learned from entrepreneurs who used their business to fund social change, people who were using business and capital as a means to greater good. Joel’s forays into the business world led him to financial services for families to protect their assets, prevent foreclosures or market loss, and educate them on best ways to get out of debt.
Motivated to leverage his position and capital into local, independent, and mission-driven businesses, Joel started the Mindful Marketplace Show, sharing stories of entrepreneurs, investors, economists and business leaders who are not only making a profit, but who are creating more equitable, sustainable, and democratic business practices and communities along the way. It's about learning to connect our money and our time to our values, our community, and ourselves.
